Anagrelide falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Tragacanth interacts with.

Theoretically, tragacanth might alter absorption of oral drugs.
Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the simple version: tragacanth is mostly a gel-forming fiber. When you swallow it, it can grab onto pills in your stomach and gut, which may slightly change how much of a medicine like anagrelide gets absorbed into your body. The catch is we don't really know which direction it goes. It could nudge absorption down, up, or not at all.

Why does this matter with anagrelide? Because it works by carefully lowering your platelet count. If absorption dropped, your platelets might creep back up; if it rose, you could see more side effects like headache, a pounding or racing heartbeat, dizziness, or fluid retention. This is only a theoretical concern based on how fiber behaves, not from real cases. A safe habit is spacing them out, taking tragacanth about 30 to 60 minutes after your anagrelide, and checking with your pharmacist first.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. Both Agrylin and generic anagrelide capsules are used to treat thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms — a condition where bone marrow disorders cause dangerously high platelet counts. The goal is to bring platelet counts down, lower the risk of dangerous blood clots (thrombosis), and ease related symptoms including bleeding and clotting events.
