Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Daprodustat (Jesduvroq) is an oral pill you take to help raise your red blood cell count when you have anemia from chronic kidney disease. Because tragacanth swells into a thick, slippery gel in your stomach, the worry here is simply about absorption. That gel could trap some of your pill and keep your body from taking in the full dose, or it could shift how much gets through. This is a theoretical concern based on how the gum behaves, not something proven in studies, so I don't want you to be alarmed.

The easy fix is spacing them out. Take your Daprodustat first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before any tragacanth supplement. Food amounts in things like candies are unlikely to matter much. If you take tragacanth regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. There is very little solid human research showing it treats any specific condition. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Daprodustat Used For?

Brand name: Jesduvroq

Jesduvroq (daprodustat) is approved to treat anemia due to chronic kidney disease (CKD) in adults who have been on dialysis for at least four months. It works by stimulating the body's own red blood cell production to reduce the need for blood transfusions.

Important limits: Jesduvroq is not a substitute for emergency blood transfusions, and it is not approved for people with CKD who are not on dialysis. It has also not been shown to improve quality of life, fatigue, or overall well-being.
