Here's the simple version: tragacanth is a plant gum that swells into a thick, slippery gel when it hits water. The concern is that this gel could grab onto your cough medicine in the stomach and gut and change how much of the dextromethorphan actually gets absorbed. It might lower the amount that reaches your bloodstream (so your cough relief feels weaker), or it could shift it the other way. Honestly, the effect is unpredictable.

I want to be clear that this is theoretical, based on how the fiber behaves, not on real studies with this cough syrup. To be safe and avoid any guesswork, a good rule is to take your dextromethorphan first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before taking tragacanth. If you're unsure, just check with your pharmacist.
