Here's the thing with tragacanth and your Unisom (doxylamine): tragacanth is a gummy fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach. When that gel is sitting there, it can grab onto a pill and slow down or change how much of the medicine your body actually absorbs. With a sleep aid like doxylamine, that could mean it kicks in slower, feels weaker, or in some cases more of it gets absorbed and you wake up groggier than usual.

To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on how the gum behaves, not something proven in studies, and food amounts of tragacanth are unlikely to cause trouble. A simple fix is spacing them out: take your doxylamine first, then the tragacanth about 30 to 60 minutes later. When in doubt, run it by your pharmacist.
