Here's the simple version: tragacanth is a gel-forming fiber, and when you swallow it close to your medicine, that thick, slippery gel can physically grab onto the drug in your gut. With your combination product (which contains ephedrine, hydroxyzine, and theophylline), that could mean a little less of each one gets absorbed, or sometimes a little more. This isn't a chemical reaction, just a timing-and-mixing issue.

Why I'd be a touch careful here: theophylline in particular has a narrow safe range, so even small swings can matter, and ephedrine is a stimulant where you'd notice changes like jitteriness or a fast heartbeat. The good news is the evidence is only theoretical. An easy fix is to take tragacanth 30 to 60 minutes after this medicine. When in doubt, ask your pharmacist.
