Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the gist: tragacanth is a gummy fiber that swells into a thick gel when it meets fluid in your stomach and gut. That same gel can wrap around whatever else is sitting in there, including a dose of Milk of Magnesia. In theory, it could slow or trap the magnesium hydroxide so less of it works the way you expect. That might mean a weaker laxative effect, or less relief if you're taking it as an antacid for heartburn.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one. It's theoretical, based on how the fiber behaves, not on real patient studies. Food amounts of tragacanth are unlikely to cause trouble. If you take a concentrated supplement, a simple fix is spacing them out: take your Milk of Magnesia first, then the tragacanth 30 to 60 minutes later. When in doubt, ask your pharmacist.
