Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the concern with pairing tragacanth and your oral Nuzyra (omadacycline). Tragacanth is mostly a gel-forming fiber, and when it swells up in your stomach it can grab onto medications and slow or reduce how much gets absorbed. With an antibiotic, that matters more than usual, because you need the full dose in your bloodstream to actually clear the infection. If less omadacycline gets through, the drug may not work as well against your pneumonia or skin infection.

This is a theoretical caution based on how fiber gums behave, not something proven specifically with omadacycline, so don't panic. To stay safe, separate them: take your omadacycline first, then wait at least 30 to 60 minutes before any tragacanth. And run it by your pharmacist to be sure.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. There is very little solid human research showing it treats any specific condition. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

About Omadacycline Injection

What Is Omadacycline Injection Used For?

Brand name: Nuzyra

Nuzyra (omadacycline) injection is used in adults to treat two types of serious bacterial infections: community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP) — a lung infection picked up outside of a hospital — and acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI), which include serious skin infections such as those caused by MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).

Nuzyra works only against bacterial infections. It is not effective against viral illnesses like the flu or common cold. Your doctor will prescribe it only when a bacterial infection is confirmed or strongly suspected, to help prevent the growth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
