ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Organophosphate
Organophosphate falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Tragacanth interacts with.
Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's some good news that should ease your mind: the malathion in Ovide is a lotion you apply to your scalp and hair to kill head lice, not a pill you swallow. The concern on file is about tragacanth's gel-forming fiber possibly slowing or changing how oral medicines get absorbed in your stomach and gut. Since Ovide stays on your skin and isn't taken by mouth, that absorption issue really doesn't apply here.
This interaction is also theoretical, based on how the fiber behaves rather than on real cases. As long as you're using Ovide the way it's labeled (topically), taking tragacanth shouldn't affect it. If you ever take a different malathion product or have questions, just check with your pharmacist.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Organophosphate page
“Organophosphate lotion (Ovide) is a head lice treatment, and even though it goes on the scalp instead of down the throat, this list earns real caution. All 17 ingredients on file are things taken by mouth, mostly fibers, gums, and charcoals that change how much of a drug the body actually keeps.”
