Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the deal with mixing tragacanth and your Daypro (oxaprozin). Tragacanth is basically a gummy fiber. When it hits fluid in your stomach, it swells into a thick gel, and that slippery gel can wrap around a pill and change how much of the medicine your body soaks up. In theory it could slow or reduce absorption, which might make your oxaprozin work less well for your arthritis pain and stiffness. Less likely, but possible, it could push absorption the other way too.

I want to be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on how fiber behaves, not from real studies on oxaprozin. To stay on the safe side, a simple fix is to take your oxaprozin first and wait 30 to 60 minutes before the tragacanth. If you're unsure, your pharmacist can help you space them out.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. Oxaprozin treats the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis — reducing joint pain, swelling, and stiffness. These uses are shared across available oral formulations, including Coxanto capsules, Oxaprozin capsules, and Oxaprozin tablets (including Daypro).

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis dosing for children ages 6 to 16 is weight-based and has been studied with both the capsule and tablet formulations.
