Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the thing about phenprocoumon (Liquamar): it's a blood thinner in the same family as warfarin, and it's what we call a narrow-therapeutic-index drug. That means even small shifts in how much gets into your body can matter. Too much and you bruise or bleed more easily; too little and a clot could slip through.

Tragacanth is a gel-forming fiber. When you swallow it close to your medicine, that thick gel could grab onto the phenprocoumon in your gut and change how much you absorb, either up or down. This is theoretical, based on how the fiber behaves, not on actual patient studies. To stay safe, separate them by taking tragacanth about 30 to 60 minutes after your dose, and let your pharmacist or doctor know so your INR can be watched.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. There is very little solid human research showing it treats any specific condition. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
