Here's the honest picture with vanadium and selumetinib (Koselugo). The interaction in our system flags vanadium as something that might thin the blood a little, based on lab studies where one form of vanadium slowed clotting by blocking thrombin and factor Xa. The concern is a possible bump in bleeding risk.

This matters because selumetinib itself can sometimes cause bleeding-related issues, so stacking another mild blood-thinning effect on top isn't ideal. That said, this is theoretical, drawn only from test-tube research, not real patient cases, so I wouldn't panic. Normal food has tiny amounts of vanadium and won't be a problem. Concentrated supplements are the question mark. Before adding any vanadium, please run it by your child's oncology team or pharmacist first.

What Is Selumetinib Used For?

Brand name: Koselugo

Koselugo (selumetinib) is approved for adults and children 1 year of age and older who have neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) — a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerve tissue — when they also have symptomatic, inoperable plexiform neurofibromas (large, deep nerve tumors that cannot be surgically removed and are causing problems).

Both the Koselugo capsule and Koselugo oral granule formulations are approved for this use. The oral granule form is intended for patients who have difficulty swallowing whole capsules.
