Here's the idea behind this pairing. Pimozide calms tics in Tourette's by blocking dopamine in the brain. Vitex (chasteberry) is thought to do the opposite, gently nudging dopamine activity up. So in theory, the two could work against each other, and Vitex might chip away at how well Pimozide controls your tics or other symptoms.

I want to be honest about the evidence though. This concern comes only from lab and animal studies, not from real patients, so it's theoretical. We don't have proof it actually causes problems in people. Still, since Pimozide is a serious medication reserved for tough cases, I wouldn't add Vitex on your own. Check with your pharmacist or doctor first so they can weigh it for your situation.

What Is Pimozide Used For?

Pimozide tablets are used to suppress the motor tics (involuntary movements) and phonic tics (involuntary sounds or vocalizations) that occur in Tourette's Disorder. It is reserved for patients whose daily life or development is severely affected by these tics.

Pimozide is not a first-choice treatment, and it is not meant for tics that are only mildly bothersome or cosmetic in nature. It should only be considered when standard treatments have not worked well enough.
