Wheatgrass + Ropivacaine
Ropivacaine brand name: Naropin.
Wheatgrass has a moderate interaction with Ropivacaine. Theoretically, wheatgrass might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Ropivacaine
Ropivacaine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Wheatgrass interacts with.
In vitro research shows that wheatgrass induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the situation with these two. Ropivacaine is a local anesthetic (the numbing medicine doctors inject during surgery, epidurals, or nerve blocks), and your liver clears it largely through an enzyme called CYP1A2. Lab studies hint that wheatgrass may speed that enzyme up, which in theory could break ropivacaine down a little faster and make the numbing effect wear off sooner or feel slightly weaker.
I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes only from test-tube research, not from real people, so we don't truly know if it matters in everyday life. On top of that, ropivacaine is usually given by a medical team in a controlled setting, so they can adjust as needed. Still, it's worth mentioning your wheatgrass use to your doctor or anesthesiologist before any procedure.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.
- DAnecdotal evidence.

The most serious there right now: Fever Bark (major), Adrafinil (moderate), African Wild Potato (moderate), Ashitaba (moderate) and Bacopa (moderate).
By severity: 1 major · 59 moderate · 25 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ropivacaine page
“Fever bark stands apart on this page. It carries the only major rating among the 85 supplements and herbs on file for ropivacaine (Naropin), the numbing medicine used in epidurals and nerve blocks, because reserpine, one of its compounds, has been tied to unstable blood pressure and heart function during general anesthesia.”

About Wheatgrass
What is Wheatgrass?
- General nutrition support
- Digestive health
- Antioxidant support
- Energy and wellness
- Arthritis symptoms
- Detox or cleansing routines
Wheatgrass is the young grass of the wheat plant, taken as a juice or powder, and is mainly used as a concentrated source of vitamins and plant nutrients. Solid scientific evidence for most health claims is limited, and it is best viewed as a nutritional add-on rather than a treatment. It is generally well tolerated, but people with celiac disease, wheat allergy, or who are pregnant should be cautious and check with a healthcare provider.
