Evidence from animal research suggests that taking white horehound extract lowers blood pressure. Theoretically, taking white horehound with antihypertensive drugs might enhance therapeutic effects and increase the risk of hypotension. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the simple version. Your amlodipine (Norvasc) already works to lower blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. White horehound, at least in animal studies, seems to nudge blood pressure down too. So the worry isn't that one blocks the other, it's that stacking them could push your pressure a little too low.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or notice your heart racing, especially when you stand up quickly. I'll be honest though: this is theoretical, based on lab and animal data, not real cases in people. An occasional horehound cough drop is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplement doses are the bigger question mark, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding them.

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Norvasc

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
