Benazepril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group White Horehound interacts with.

Evidence from animal research suggests that taking white horehound extract lowers blood pressure. Theoretically, taking white horehound with antihypertensive drugs might enhance therapeutic effects and increase the risk of hypotension. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Your Lotensin HCT already does two jobs to bring blood pressure down: benazepril relaxes your blood vessels, and the hydrochlorothiazide part helps your body shed extra fluid and salt. The concern here is simply additive. In animal studies, white horehound also nudged blood pressure lower, so stacking it on top of your medicine could theoretically push your numbers down a bit too far.

If that happened, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, or woozy when you stand up, unusually tired, or even faint. I want to stress this is theoretical and only based on animal research, not solid human studies, and tiny amounts in an old-fashioned cough drop are very unlikely to matter. Still, before using concentrated horehound supplements regularly, check with your pharmacist or doctor.
