Insulin Degludec falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group White Horehound interacts with.

Evidence from animal research suggests that white horehound might lower blood glucose. However, preliminary clinical research suggests that white horehound only slightly lowers blood glucose when taken in combination with antidiabetic agents, suggesting that the effect may not be clinically significant. Until more is known, use with caution. Theoretically, white horehound may have additive effects when used by patients taking antidiabetic drugs. The dose of diabetes medications might need to be adjusted. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, metformin (Glucophage), pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the gist with white horehound and your Tresiba. Some animal studies hint that this herb can nudge blood sugar a little lower on its own. Tresiba is a long-acting insulin, so its whole job is already to bring your sugar down. Stacking the two together could, in theory, add up and push your blood sugar lower than you'd want.

That said, the human research we have is limited and suggests the herb's effect is small, possibly too small to really matter. Still, it's worth being aware of. If you do try white horehound, keep an eye out for low blood sugar signs like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling foggy, and check your numbers a bit more often. Before adding it, run it by your pharmacist or doctor so any dose tweaks can be handled safely.

What Is Insulin Degludec (rDNA Origin) Injection Used For?

Brand name: Tresiba

Insulin degludec (brand name Tresiba) is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults and children 1 year of age and older who have diabetes mellitus — including both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

It is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous complication of diabetes that requires a different type of treatment). In people with type 1 diabetes, insulin degludec must always be used together with a short-acting insulin.
