Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Oxycodone
Acetaminophen, Oxycodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) SUBSTRATES — the group Winter Cherry interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP2E1 include acetaminophen, chlorzoxazone (Parafon Forte), ethanol, theophylline, and anesthetics such as enflurane (Ethrane), halothane (Fluothane), isoflurane (Forane), methoxyflurane (Penthrane).
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture with Percocet (which combines acetaminophen and oxycodone) and Winter Cherry. The interaction on file is about the acetaminophen part. In lab dish testing, Winter Cherry slowed down an enzyme called CYP2E1 that helps process acetaminophen. The thinking is that if that enzyme is blocked, acetaminophen could hang around a little longer. The good news is this is purely theoretical, based only on test tube work, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
What matters more in real life is the acetaminophen itself, since too much over time can stress the liver. The oxycodone side (drowsiness, slowed breathing, constipation) isn't really part of this interaction. Before pairing them regularly, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you ever take extra acetaminophen for pain.

About Winter Cherry
What is Winter Cherry?
- Stress and anxiety
- Fatigue and low energy
- Sleep support
- General vitality and tonic
- Athletic performance
Winter Cherry is another name for ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), an herb long used in Ayurvedic medicine, most often for stress, sleep, and energy. Some small studies suggest it may help with stress and anxiety, but the evidence is still limited and not definitive. It is generally well tolerated short-term, but pregnant women should avoid it, and anyone with a health condition should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
