Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Benzhydrocodone, Acetaminophen
Benzhydrocodone, Acetaminophen falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) SUBSTRATES — the group Winter Cherry interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP2E1 include acetaminophen, chlorzoxazone (Parafon Forte), ethanol, theophylline, and anesthetics such as enflurane (Ethrane), halothane (Fluothane), isoflurane (Forane), methoxyflurane (Penthrane).
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the piece that matters with Apadaz: the acetaminophen half of this combo is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP2E1. In a lab dish (not in people), Winter Cherry slowed that enzyme down. In theory, that could mean a bit more acetaminophen hanging around. The honest truth is this evidence is very weak, coming only from test-tube work, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
Still, since acetaminophen is hard on the liver in large amounts, I'd be a little cautious about pairing concentrated ashwagandha supplements with this medicine, especially if you also drink alcohol or take other acetaminophen products. The opioid side (drowsiness, constipation) isn't really part of this enzyme story. Before combining them, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

About Winter Cherry
What is Winter Cherry?
- Stress and anxiety
- Fatigue and low energy
- Sleep support
- General vitality and tonic
- Athletic performance
Winter Cherry is another name for ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), an herb long used in Ayurvedic medicine, most often for stress, sleep, and energy. Some small studies suggest it may help with stress and anxiety, but the evidence is still limited and not definitive. It is generally well tolerated short-term, but pregnant women should avoid it, and anyone with a health condition should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
