Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: Agaricus blazei, a mushroom extract. It's sold as a powder, which means you're getting the whole ingredient without any other actives mixed in.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Agaricus Mushroom product and its label doesn't state a use — see Agaricus Mushroom's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for agaricus mushroom isn't established yet. The data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for hay fever, osteoporosis, cancer, heart disease, chemotherapy side effects, and Crohn disease.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work—it means the studies to prove it haven't been done or aren't strong enough yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Agaricus mushroom is generally well tolerated as a food, but supplement safety and long-term effects haven't been well studied. The most common side effects when taken by mouth are abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, and nausea.

Rare serious effects include allergic reactions, liver damage, and a lung condition called interstitial lung disease (ILD). Three cases of severe liver damage have been reported in women with ovarian or breast cancer taking chemotherapy who also used agaricus supplements—two of those cases were fatal.

There's not enough safety data to use this supplement during pregnancy or while breastfeeding; talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

If you're curious about agaricus mushroom and don't take blood sugar medication, this product is generally well tolerated at typical doses. If you take any diabetes drug, you need to check with your pharmacist first—low blood sugar is a real concern.

Given the rare but serious risk of liver damage, especially in people with cancer or hepatitis B, be honest with your healthcare provider about what you're taking.

Formula

Agaricus blazei is commonly referred to as 'Almond Mushroom,' given its almond-like taste and aroma. It is native to Sao Paolo, Brazil and typically thrives in an atmosphere with high temperatures and abundant moisture. It is also found growing in North America - particularly Canada and the United States - and Britain. The mushroom features a round cap with a gill-like structure under the cap. It typically forms single or clustered fruit bodies on fallen dead plant material.
