Astaxanthin at this dose appears to be generally well tolerated, though long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects reported in studies were abdominal pain, diarrhea, and red-colored stools.
At the 6 mg dose, a small number of trial participants experienced increased bowel movements and red fecal color. There isn't enough safety data to know whether it's safe in pregnancy or while breastfeeding — the safety data advises against using it during both.
