Ceylon Cinnamon Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Ceylon Cinnamon against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This is a single-ingredient product: Ceylon cinnamon in capsule form. It's the dried bark of the cinnamon tree, used as both a food spice and, in supplement doses, as a traditional remedy.
The capsules contain pullulan as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence on Ceylon cinnamon is mixed and modest. For weight loss and blood sugar control — two of its most common uses — the data shows it's possibly ineffective.
For hay fever, COPD, and the common cold, we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate whether it works. If you're considering this for one of those purposes, talk with your pharmacist about what the science actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Ceylon cinnamon is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth, and side effects are uncommon. The most frequent ones are bloating, indigestion, and nausea.
Food amounts are likely safe, but supplement-strength doses are less studied. There's one case report of bleeding in a patient who took a tablespoon daily for 10 months and then had surgery; a few cases of allergic reactions (itching and rashes) have also been reported.
Topically, cinnamon oil can irritate skin and trigger allergic reactions in sensitive people.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications before starting this product if you take blood pressure drugs or diabetes medications. Both groups can theoretically have additive effects with Ceylon cinnamon — your blood pressure could drop too low, or your blood sugar could fall too much.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Ceylon cinnamon is generally well tolerated at food doses, but supplement-strength capsules are less researched. If you take blood pressure or diabetes medications, check with your pharmacist before starting — the cinnamon could add to their effects.

Ceylon Cinnamon by Organic India Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Organic India's Ceylon Cinnamon can interact with blood pressure and diabetes medications.
The main concern is with blood pressure drugs (antihypertensives) — Ceylon cinnamon may add to their effect and lower your pressure too much, raising the risk of low blood pressure (hypotension). Animal studies show the extract relaxes blood vessels, which is how it works.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Ceylon cinnamon may also lower blood sugar levels, so it could have additive effects with diabetes medications. If you take diabetes drugs, dose adjustments might be needed.
Altogether, these interactions span 258 individual medications.
Run your exact medications through the search tool on this page before you start. If you're on either a blood pressure or diabetes drug, check with your pharmacist first.
