Flora 12+ contains 14 active ingredients: a proprietary blend of 12 probiotic strains (live beneficial bacteria and one yeast species) and fructooligosaccharides, a prebiotic fiber that feeds those organisms. The blend includes Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species, Streptococcus thermophilus, and Saccharomyces boulardii.
The inactive ingredients are rice starch, the capsule itself, and ascorbic acid.

Evidence for this product's effectiveness is mixed and limited. Saccharomyces boulardii and Lactobacillus acidophilus are rated possibly effective for traveler's diarrhea and antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
Several ingredients—including Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Saccharomyces boulardii—are possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome. For most other conditions the ingredients address (constipation, diabetes, hay fever, anxiety), the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate them.
Fructooligosaccharides likewise lacks reliable evidence for its intended uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most of the probiotic strains are generally well tolerated in healthy adults. Common side effects from the probiotics and the prebiotic fiber include gas, bloating, flatulence, and abdominal discomfort—these are usually mild and often subside.
Because these are live organisms, there is a theoretical risk of infection in people who are critically ill, have weakened immune systems, or have indwelling catheters; such cases are rare but have been documented. Fructooligosaccharides at higher doses may cause more pronounced bloating, though clinical trials at 2.5–15 grams daily showed no increase in these symptoms compared with placebo.

Lactobacillus acidophilus
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Bifidobacterium bifidum
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.

Saccharomyces boulardii
Antifungals
Theoretically, taking antifungals with Saccharomyces boulardii might decrease the effectiveness of Saccharomyces boulardii.
S. boulardii is a live yeast. Therefore, simultaneously taking antifungals might kill a significant number of the organisms.
