Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at high doses, because your body removes excess through urine; mild diarrhea has been rarely reported at very high doses (300 mg daily). One case report linked biotin and pantothenic acid to inflammation in the lungs and fluid around the heart, but whether biotin caused it is unclear.

Chromium is usually well tolerated at typical supplement doses but poses unknown risks at high or long-term doses. Common side effects include stomach irritation, headaches, insomnia, and mood changes; rarely, kidney or liver damage, muscle breakdown, and low platelet counts have been reported.

Chromium may also trigger skin rashes in people with chromium contact allergy. Both biotin and chromium are likely safe in pregnancy; talk with your doctor before taking high-dose supplements.

Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
