What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-glutamine, an amino acid your body makes naturally and uses for immune function, gut health, and muscle recovery. It's supplied as a plain powder with no inactive fillers or other ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence strongest for sickle cell disease, where glutamine is rated effective. For HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness from trauma, the data supports possibly effective—meaning there's some promise but the research isn't conclusive yet.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Glutamine is generally well tolerated by healthy adults. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, and vomiting—especially at higher doses.
Headache and musculoskeletal pain have also been reported. Rare cases of dizziness and mood changes (mania or hypomania) have occurred in people with bipolar disorder; if your dose causes dizziness, lowering it may help.
If you have kidney or liver disease, use this supplement only under your doctor's supervision. During pregnancy, the safety data rates it likely safe.
For breastfeeding, there isn't enough reliable safety information, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using supplemental doses.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take anticonvulsants (seizure medications), run them through the checker below before using this supplement. Glutamine is metabolized to glutamate, which theoretically might work against how your seizure medication works—and although this hasn't been seen in people, it's worth confirming with your doctor or pharmacist that it's safe for you.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Inner Armour's glutamine works best for sickle cell disease and may help with wasting from HIV/AIDS, recovery after surgery, or trauma. It's generally well tolerated but can cause GI upset, especially at high doses.
Before starting this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take seizure medication—and if you have kidney or liver disease, definitely get their clearance first.

General Statements
Glutamine is a “conditionally essential” amino acid. During times of physical stress and exertion Glutamine reserves can be depleted. Glutamine’s role in the body is critical to optimum performance. As the most abundant amino acid in muscle tissue, Glutamine has a positive anti-catabolic role in protein synthesis and immune system enhancement. Glutamine supplementation can influence muscle tissue recovery, supporting gains in growth and strength while enhancing immune function.* Glutamine can be taken with water or added to protein powders and meal replacements to increase nitrogen and fortify intramuscular Glutamine levels.*
