Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Herba Vision contains 2 active ingredients: Lutigold Lutein (a blend of naturally occurring lutein and zeaxanthin compounds) and bilberry extract. These are carotenoid and flavonoid plant compounds traditionally used to support eye health.
The softgel also contains inactive ingredients—safflower oil, gelatin, vegetable glycerin, beeswax, and caramel color—that serve as the capsule base and delivery system.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
For zeaxanthin: the evidence shows it's possibly effective for age-related macular degeneration (a common cause of vision loss in older adults), but evidence is insufficient to rate its use for cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease, asthma, breast cancer, or lung conditions in premature infants. For bilberry extract: the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective for night vision, and there is insufficient evidence to rate it for age-related cognitive decline, macular degeneration, atherosclerosis, high cholesterol, or chronic venous insufficiency (vein and circulation problems).
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both zeaxanthin and bilberry are generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. Bilberry may cause dark-colored stools, flatulence, and stomach discomfort in some people—in small trials, a minority of participants reported these effects.
It can also temporarily stain your tongue, teeth, and stools dark blue or black, which is harmless but expected. For pregnancy and breastfeeding: both ingredients are rated Likely Safe, though the safety data for concentrated supplements (rather than food amounts) is limited.
The facts note that supplement safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been well studied, so if you're pregnant or nursing, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Herba Vision, confirm with your doctor or pharmacist that it's okay if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin or aspirin)—bilberry may increase bleeding risk. If you take diabetes medications, check first, as both ingredients may lower blood sugar further.
Also flag any cancer medications like erlotinib (Tarceva) and any drugs your liver processes through the CYP2E1 pathway.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Herba Vision may be worth considering if you're looking to support eye health, especially for age-related macular degeneration. However, you'll need to double-check it against your blood thinners, diabetes medications, and any cancer drugs you're taking.
Dark stools and mild stomach upset are possible but usually mild. Talk with your own doctor or pharmacist before you start, especially if you're on prescription medications.

Herba Vision by Vitamin World Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herba Vision by Vitamin World contains zeaxanthin and bilberry extract, both of which interact with medications.
The most serious concern is a moderate-severity interaction: bilberry may increase bleeding risk when taken with blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (medications that prevent clots).
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Zeaxanthin can theoretically raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined with diabetes medications. Bilberry carries similar concerns with diabetes drugs, and it may also affect how your body processes certain cancer medications like erlotinib (Tarceva).
Additionally, bilberry could theoretically change levels of drugs your liver breaks down through a specific enzyme pathway (CYP2E1 substrates).
Lutigold Lutein is listed as a blend of component ingredients, which we could not fully check individually. Altogether, these interactions span 275 individual medications.
Before you start Herba Vision, run your exact prescriptions through the search tool on this page to see if any are affected.

For each ingredient in Herba Vision with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Bilberry extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, bilberry fruit extract might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro, animal, and clinical research suggest that anthocyanidin extracts from bilberry can inhibit platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, bilberry leaf or fruit extract may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that bilberry leaf extract might have blood glucose-lowering activity. Also, one small clinical trial in patients with type 2 diabetes shows that taking bilberry fruit extract 470 mg as a single dose prior to an oral glucose tolerance test lowers plasma glucose levels when compared with placebo.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
Theoretically, bilberry fruit extract might decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2E1.
Animal research shows that exposure to small concentrations of bilberry extract in drinking water for around one month increased CYP2E1 activity by 31%. However, exposure over a 2-month period did not increase CYP2E1 activity. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Erlotinib (Tarceva)
Theoretically, bilberry fruit extract might reduce the efficacy of erlotinib.
In vitro research suggests that bilberry fruit extract and its constituents, delphinidin and delphinidin-3-O-glucoside, inhibit the activity of erlotinib. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
