Herbal Flora Probiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Herbal Flora Probiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Herbal Flora Probiotic by Mountain Meadow Herbs
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Herbal Flora Probiotic contains 9 active probiotic and prebiotic ingredients designed to support gut health. The checked probiotics include Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Bacillus subtilis — beneficial bacteria strains that may help with digestive and immune function.
The product also contains five other probiotic species (L. lactis, L. casei, L. plantarum, L. rhamnosus, and B. licheniformis) plus a proprietary prebiotic blend and soil-based organisms. Beyond the active ingredients, the capsules include inactive ingredients such as humic and fulvic acid, bilberry, ginger, milk thistle, cilantro, bee pollen, chicory, burdock, and the capsule material hypromellose.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for probiotics in this product is mixed. Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus are both rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) — meaning some evidence suggests benefit, but more research is needed.
L. acidophilus is also possibly effective for Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. Bacillus subtilis is possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
For many other conditions — including allergies, anxiety, eczema, diabetes, and respiratory infections — the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate these ingredients' effectiveness. Talk with your pharmacist about what condition you're hoping to address and whether the evidence supports this product for that use.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The checked probiotic strains are generally well tolerated in healthy people. The most commonly reported side effects are mild gastrointestinal ones — bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and burping — though these are uncommon.
One case of vomiting and fever was reported in a child taking B. bifidum and L. acidophilus together, but it's unclear whether the probiotics caused it. Important caution: if you have a weakened immune system, consult your doctor before use, since there are rare documented cases of probiotic-related infections (bacteremia and sepsis) in critically ill or severely immunocompromised patients.
We don't have pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data on file for any of these ingredients, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant or nursing and considering this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start, check whether you take any antibiotic drugs — that's the one drug category with documented Moderate-severity interactions with three of the probiotics here. If you do, your pharmacist can help you space out the doses.
For the other six ingredients in this blend, we don't hold interaction data, so if you're on any medications at all, use the search tool on this page to be thorough.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may help with irritable bowel syndrome or antibiotic-associated diarrhea if the evidence matters to you, but results vary. If you're on antibiotics, separate them from this product by a few hours.
Anyone with a weakened immune system, or anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, should check with their pharmacist or doctor first. Run your current medications through the checker on this page to be sure.

Herbal Flora Probiotic by Mountain Meadow Herbs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbal Flora Probiotic by Mountain Meadow Herbs contains several live probiotic organisms that interact with one major drug category.
The most serious interaction is with antibiotic drugs (Moderate severity). Three of the checked ingredients — Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Bacillus subtilis — can theoretically have their effectiveness reduced if you take them at the same time as antibiotics, because the antibiotics may kill off a significant portion of the live organisms in the probiotic preparation.
The solution is straightforward: separate the two by several hours when you can.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
We were able to check the interaction data for three of the nine ingredients. The remaining six ingredients in this product — L. lactis, L. casei, L. plantarum, L. rhamnosus, Soil Based Organisms, and B. licheniformis — we don't hold interaction data for, so we cannot assess whether they interact with any medications.
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to see if any of your prescriptions are affected, and talk with your pharmacist or doctor about timing if you're on an antibiotic.
