What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: shilajit extract. Shilajit is a mineral-rich substance that comes from high-altitude mountain regions.
There are no other active ingredients, and no inactive fillers or binders are listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for shilajit isn't established in our data. We hold insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), and osteoporosis (weak bones).
That doesn't mean it doesn't work for these uses—it means the research so far hasn't been robust enough to say one way or the other. If you're considering shilajit for a specific health goal, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Shilajit is generally well tolerated, though a small number of people have reported headache after taking it. Rarely, allergic reactions have been reported, including one case of severe anaphylaxis (a life-threatening allergic reaction) triggered by exercise after a higher dose.
Because unpurified products can contain heavy metals and other contaminants, use only purified, tested brands like this one. The safety data advises against shilajit during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, so if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take any antidiabetes drugs—metformin, insulin, glibenclamide, or other blood-sugar-lowering medications—double-check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this product, because shilajit may increase the risk of low blood sugar.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Shilajit from Omica Organics is a purified extract, but it does interact with blood-sugar-lowering medications and its effectiveness for most uses isn't yet well established. If you take antidiabetes drugs, check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding. For any personal health decisions, talk it over with your own healthcare provider.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
High-Himalayan Shilajit Paste by Omica Organics contains shilajit extract, which has documented interactions with antidiabetes drugs.

Research in animals shows that shilajit can enhance the glucose-lowering effect of drugs like metformin and glibenclamide, meaning your blood sugar could drop more than expected if you're already on one of these medications.

Antidiabetes Drugs
Taking shilajit with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Most human and animal research shows that shilajit can decrease fasting plasma glucose levels. In an animal model, shilajit 100 mg per kg daily enhanced the glucose-lowering ability of both glibenclamide and metformin when given in combination over a 4 week period. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.
