HMF Digest-Zyme Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Genestra Brands
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking HMF Digest-Zyme against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of HMF Digest-Zyme by Genestra Brands
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Partial disclosure
HMF Digest-Zyme contains 6 active ingredients: three digestive enzymes (lipase, alpha-amylase, and fungal protease) and three live-organism probiotics (Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Lactobacillus acidophilus). The enzymes are meant to support the breakdown of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins during digestion, while the probiotics aim to promote beneficial gut bacteria.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients: cellulose, hypromellose, sunflower lecithin, and silica.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The two Bifidobacterium strains and Lactobacillus acidophilus each show possibly effective evidence for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and respiratory tract infections. Lactobacillus acidophilus is also possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium animalis lactis is possibly effective for constipation. For the digestive enzymes—lipase, amylase, and fungal protease—we don't have established effectiveness ratings in our data; the evidence for these in supporting digestion or treating conditions like dyspepsia is insufficient to rate reliably at this time.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotic ingredients are generally well tolerated by most healthy people, though diarrhea and gastrointestinal complaints like bloating and flatulence have been reported in some cases. The digestive enzymes are also generally well tolerated but may cause digestive upset or, rarely, allergic reactions.
Safety data during pregnancy is limited for all ingredients: there's little or no established safety information for the lipase, amylase, and fungal protease in pregnancy; Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus are rated possibly safe in pregnancy, but you should confirm with your doctor before use. Breastfeeding safety hasn't been well studied for any of these ingredients—discuss with your healthcare provider if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you're taking antibiotic drugs, space them apart from this product by several hours—antibiotics can kill the live organisms in it and reduce its effectiveness. No other medication interactions are documented for the digestive enzymes in our data.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glancePartially disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may appeal to someone looking to support digestion with enzymes and gut health with probiotics, especially if they have IBS or are recovering from antibiotic use. If you take antibiotics, separate them from this supplement by a few hours to let the probiotics work properly.
Because safety data in pregnancy and breastfeeding is limited, and because the probiotics can interact with antibiotics, talk with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting it.

HMF Digest-Zyme by Genestra Brands Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
HMF Digest-Zyme by Genestra Brands contains three probiotic ingredients—Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Lactobacillus acidophilus—that each have a Moderate interaction with antibiotic drugs.
Since these probiotics are live organisms, taking them at the same time as antibiotics can reduce how well the probiotics work; antibiotics may kill off the beneficial bacteria before they establish themselves. Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The main concern is timing. If you're on an antibiotic, space out your doses: take the antibiotic as prescribed, then wait a few hours (or ask your pharmacist for the best interval) before taking this product.
After you finish the antibiotic course, you can resume the supplement to help rebuild your gut flora.
The other active ingredients in this product—the digestive enzymes (lipase, amylase, and fungal protease)—have no documented interactions with medications in our data. We could not check alpha-amylase because we don't hold interaction data for it.
To confirm your exact medications won't interact, use the medication checker on this page.
