Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: L-glutamine, an amino acid your body naturally makes and uses for immune function, gut health, and recovery from stress or illness. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients—gelatin, vegetable cellulose, and vegetable magnesium stearate—which are binding and filling agents.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Glutamine's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: ergogenic aid to increase work output.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Exercise-induced muscle damage, Sports endurance, Muscle strength.
  • The closest evidence on file: Glutamine is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Athletic performance (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Glutamine is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Exercise-induced muscle damage.

The evidence supports L-glutamine as effective for sickle cell disease. It's rated possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, recovery after surgery, and critical illness from trauma.

The data we hold doesn't establish effectiveness for other uses.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

L-Glutamine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults. The most common side effects from oral doses are belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal pain, headache, and musculoskeletal pain.

A few cases of dizziness and, rarely, mood changes (mania or hypomania) in people with bipolar disorder have been reported. People with kidney or liver disease should take it only under medical supervision.

There isn't enough safety data to recommend it during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor advises otherwise. The facts we hold rate it likely safe in pregnancy and lactation, but because safety information is limited, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you're pregnant or nursing.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Glutamine.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: seizure medications.
  • For scale: 50 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check before combining with anticonvulsants (anti-seizure medications)—glutamine might theoretically reduce their effect, though this hasn't been reported in actual patients. Talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on any of these medications.

L-Glutamine may be worth considering if you have sickle cell disease, are recovering from surgery, or are dealing with HIV/AIDS-related wasting—or if your doctor suggests it for another reason. If you take anticonvulsants or have kidney or liver disease, check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

GI side effects are common at higher doses, so start low if you're new to it.
