What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking L-Glutamine SAP against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-glutamine, an amino acid your body naturally produces. L-glutamine plays a role in immune function, gut health, and protein synthesis.
The powder form delivers it without any inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence supports L-glutamine for sickle cell disease—it's rated effective for that use. For HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness from trauma, the evidence is possibly effective, meaning there's some supportive data but it's not yet conclusive.
The facts we hold don't establish effectiveness for other uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-glutamine is generally well tolerated by healthy adults. The most common side effects from oral use are digestive: belching, bloating, flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain—especially at higher doses (10–30 grams daily).
Rare cases of dizziness, headache, and mood changes (mania or hypomania) in bipolar disorder have been reported. If you have kidney or liver disease, use it only under medical supervision.
The data on safety during breastfeeding is limited, so avoid supplemental doses unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take anticonvulsants (seizure medications), discuss this product with your doctor or pharmacist before starting—glutamine may theoretically interfere with how these drugs work, though it hasn't been reported in patients. No other medication types are documented as interacting with the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-glutamine may help with sickle cell disease and possibly with recovery from surgery or critical illness. If you take anticonvulsants, check with your doctor before starting.
