HelloPharmacist Scorecard of L-Methionine Powder by Herbadiet
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This powder contains 2 active ingredients: vitamin B6 and L-methionine. Vitamin B6 is a B vitamin your body uses for nerve function, immune health, and making red blood cells; it's especially used to treat vitamin B6 deficiency and certain types of anemia.
L-Methionine is an amino acid (a building block of protein) that your body uses to make other important compounds. The product contains no inactive fillers or other ingredients.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B6 in this powder is effective for vitamin B6 deficiency and sideroblastic anemia (a type of blood disorder), likely effective for high homocysteine levels, and possibly effective for pregnancy-related nausea. L-Methionine has possibly effective evidence for preventing certain birth defects, but the evidence for hay fever, asthma, and cancer is insufficient to rate.
For most other uses claimed for methionine, we don't have solid data in our files.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin B6 is well tolerated in doses under 100 mg daily, though high doses over time can damage nerves (sensory neuropathy). Common side effects at any dose are headache, nausea, and abdominal pain.
L-Methionine is well tolerated in food amounts, but high-dose supplements can cause dizziness, drowsiness, and vomiting. High-dose methionine may also raise homocysteine, a risk factor for heart and blood vessel disease.
During pregnancy, vitamin B6 is likely safe, though one rating suggests caution; L-methionine is likely safe. During breastfeeding, both are likely safe, but L-methionine's safety in supplement doses hasn't been well studied.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on antihypertensive drugs (blood pressure medications), amiodarone (a heart rhythm medication), phenobarbital or phenytoin (seizure medications), or levodopa alone for Parkinson's disease. Vitamin B6 in this powder can interact with all of these.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This powder is mainly for people with vitamin B6 deficiency or certain anemias, and for those wanting amino acid support. If you take blood pressure medications, seizure drugs, heart rhythm drugs, or Parkinson's medication, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — vitamin B6 can interact with several of these.
Anyone planning to take high doses should check in with their healthcare provider, especially pregnant or breastfeeding women.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbadiet's L-Methionine Powder carries interactions through its vitamin B6 content.
The most serious concern is Moderate-severity interaction with antihypertensive drugs (medications that lower blood pressure) — vitamin B6 may add to their effect and lower your blood pressure further.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Vitamin B6 also carries Moderate interactions with amiodarone (a heart rhythm drug), phenobarbital and phenytoin (seizure medications), where high doses of B6 may worsen photosensitivity from amiodarone or reduce the blood levels and effectiveness of the seizure drugs. There's also a Minor interaction with levodopa (Parkinson's medication) — but only if you're taking levodopa alone; the interaction doesn't occur if you're on the combination product carbidopa-levodopa (Sinemet).
L-Methionine itself has no documented interactions in our data. Altogether, these interactions span 210 individual medications.

For each ingredient in L-Methionine Powder with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Vitamin B6
Amiodarone (Cordarone)
Theoretically, vitamin B6 might increase the photosensitivity caused by amiodarone.
Despite initial case reports suggesting that pyridoxine may have a protective effect against amiodarone-induced photosensitivity, preliminary clinical research suggests that pyridoxine may actually exacerbate this adverse effect.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, vitamin B6 may have additive effects when used with antihypertensive drugs.
Research in hypertensive rats shows that vitamin B6 can decrease systolic blood pressure. Similarly, clinical research in patients with hypertension shows that taking high doses of vitamin B6 may reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure, possibly by reducing plasma levels of epinephrine and norepinephrine.
Phenobarbital (Luminal)
High doses of vitamin B6 may reduce the levels and clinical effects of phenobarbital.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that vitamin B6 200 mg daily can reduce plasma levels of phenobarbital, possibly by increasing metabolism. It is not known whether lower doses have any effect. Advise people taking phenobarbital to avoid high doses of vitamin B6.
Phenytoin (Dilantin)
High doses of vitamin B6 may reduce the levels and clinical effects of phenytoin.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that vitamin B6 200 mg daily can reduce plasma levels of phenytoin, possibly by increasing metabolism. It is not known whether lower doses have any effect. Advise people taking phenytoin to avoid high doses of vitamin B6.
Levodopa
Vitamin B6 may increase the metabolism of levodopa when taken alone, but not when taken in conjunction with carbidopa.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) enhances the metabolism of levodopa, reducing its clinical effects. However, this interaction does not occur when carbidopa is used concurrently with levodopa (Sinemet). Therefore, it is not likely to be a problem in most people.
