Lovage is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but this is a concentrated extract with limited safety data. The main concern with long-term use is photosensitivity—an increased risk of phototoxic reactions (sun damage to the skin).

If you use lovage, avoid prolonged sun or UV light exposure. A case of contact dermatitis has been reported when undiluted lovage essential oil was applied to skin, and photosensitivity has also been reported from handling the plant itself.
