Malic Acid Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Malic Acid against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: malic acid. That's it — no blends or hidden actives.
Malic acid is an organic acid found naturally in fruits and is sometimes used to support certain health goals. The capsule also contains gelatin, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide as inactive ingredients to hold everything together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for malic acid is mixed depending on what you're hoping it'll do. For dry mouth, there's some evidence it may help — that's rated possibly effective.
For acne, GERD, fatigue, fibromyalgia, and psoriasis, the evidence isn't established well enough to say whether it works; those are all rated insufficient reliable evidence to rate. So if you're considering this for something other than dry mouth, the data doesn't yet support a clear answer.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Malic acid taken by mouth seems to be well tolerated overall. However, supplement doses haven't been well studied — we know food amounts are generally fine, but we don't have solid safety data for the higher doses in a supplement like this one, so caution is warranted.
When applied to skin, it can cause irritation and peeling, and some people have had stronger reactions like hives or contact dermatitis. A few people taking a malic acid and magnesium combination reported diarrhea and nausea, though it's unclear whether malic acid or the magnesium (which has a laxative effect) was responsible.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take a blood pressure medication (antihypertensive), check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product — malic acid may increase the risk of your blood pressure dropping too low.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Malic Acid might be worth considering if you're dealing with dry mouth and want to explore something beyond the usual approaches — just know the evidence is preliminary. The main caution is if you take a blood pressure medication; you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Because supplement doses aren't well studied, talk it over with your own healthcare provider before starting, especially if you're on any medications.
