Your body makes some on its own, but during illness, injury, or intense training, demand can outpace supply.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence shows L-glutamine is effective for sickle cell disease. It's rated possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative (after surgery) recovery, and critical illness from trauma, though the research here is less complete.
For other uses, the data we hold doesn't establish effectiveness.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-glutamine is generally well tolerated by healthy adults when taken by mouth. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal — belching, bloating, gas, nausea, diarrhea, and stomach pain, especially at higher doses (10–30 grams daily).
Headache and dizziness have also been reported; one person's dizziness improved when the dose was cut in half. In two patients with bipolar disorder, high doses triggered mania or hypomania, so those with a bipolar history should be cautious.
If you have kidney or liver disease, use L-glutamine only under medical supervision. There isn't enough safety data to recommend it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding unless your doctor advises it — talk with them if you're planning either.

Each tiny particle of GL3 is 20 times smaller than regular glutamine powder. This allows for ultra-fast absorption and utilization. Glutamine represents over 63% of the amino acid content in the amino acid pool of muscle tissue. Intense training and exercise put greater demands on your body for glutamine, making it a conditionally essential amino acid. Glutamine is the most common amino acid in the body and is key to the metabolism and maintenance of muscle tissue. Glutamine is also the highest concentrated amino acid in the muscle cell and acts as a primary shuttle for nitrogen from the bloodstream to inside the muscle cell. Glutamine has a multifaceted role in human nutrition and is essential for the support of muscle tissue and immune function.
