What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: nattokinase, a 50 mg dose. Nattokinase is an enzyme derived from natto (fermented soy).
The capsule also contains microcrystalline cellulose, gelatin, silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold doesn't establish whether nattokinase is effective for any condition. It's been studied for angina, atherosclerosis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and chronic fatigue, but the data rates all of them as having insufficient reliable evidence to make a rating.
If you're considering this product for a specific health goal, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist to see what the current research says.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Nattokinase is generally well tolerated short-term, but because of its blood-thinning effects, you should be cautious if you have any bleeding risk. Rare cases of bleeding—including brain bleeding—have been reported, especially when combined with other blood thinners.
Some people may also have hypersensitivity reactions to natto or its components; symptoms can include throat and airway swelling within 2 hours of taking it. There isn't enough safety data to recommend nattokinase during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking nattokinase if you take any blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, apixaban, aspirin, or clopidogrel)—the combination raises bleeding risk, and a case of brain bleeding has been reported. Also confirm if you take blood pressure medications, since nattokinase might lower your pressure further.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Nattokinase is a blood-thinning enzyme that's generally well tolerated short-term, but it can interact with blood thinners and blood pressure medications—so if you take either of those, check with your doctor or pharmacist first. Its effectiveness for heart or other conditions hasn't been clearly established in the evidence we hold.
If you have any bleeding risk or are pregnant or breastfeeding, clear it with your healthcare provider before starting.
