Performance Probiotic Digestive Support Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Nutra Sport
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Performance Probiotic Digestive Support against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Performance Probiotic Digestive Support by Nutra Sport
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains 20 active ingredients: digestive enzymes (Amylase, Protease, Lipase, Lactase, Peptidase, Invertase, Glucoamylase, Alpha-Galactosidase, and Acid Maltase) plus ten probiotic bacteria strains (Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus casei, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and Lactococcus lactis), along with Fructooligosaccharides (a prebiotic fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria). The enzymes break down different food components — fats, proteins, carbohydrates, and sugars — to help digestion, while the probiotics add beneficial live organisms to your gut.
The inactive ingredients are Gelatin, Cellulose, Silica, Magnesium Stearate, and Stearic Acid.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for most ingredients in this product is limited. Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated Possibly Effective for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is rated Possibly Effective for irritable bowel syndrome and respiratory tract infections. Lactase is rated Effective for lactose intolerance — that one has solid backing.
For the other probiotics and enzymes — Bifidobacterium longum, Fructooligosaccharides, Streptococcus thermophilus, Protease, Lipase — the evidence we hold is Insufficient Reliable Evidence, meaning we don't yet know if they work for the conditions they're marketed for. We have no effectiveness data on file for Amylase, Peptidase, Invertase, Glucoamylase, Alpha-Galactosidase, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus casei, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Acid Maltase, or Lactococcus lactis.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most of these ingredients are generally well tolerated in healthy adults. Protease may cause digestive upset or allergic reactions in rare cases; occupational exposure to airborne protease can cause allergic reactions in sensitive workers.
Lactase has been associated with contact dermatitis and allergic rhinitis (nasal and eye allergy) in workers exposed to powdered form, but this is uncommon. The probiotic bacteria are normally safe for healthy people but carry a rare theoretical risk of infection in critically ill or severely immune-compromised patients.
Fructooligosaccharides commonly cause gas, bloating, and abdominal discomfort, especially at higher doses, though these effects are generally mild under 10 grams daily. For pregnancy: Lactase is Likely Safe during pregnancy.
Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium bifidum have limited or no specific safety data during pregnancy — check with your doctor before use. Protease should be avoided during pregnancy unless prescribed.
For breastfeeding: Lactase is acceptable but ask your provider first. Protease and Lipase have little safety data during breastfeeding, so use is not recommended without medical advice.
The other probiotics have limited or no safety data while breastfeeding — consult your healthcare provider.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Antibiotic drugs (Moderate severity) are the main concern: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium bifidum can lose effectiveness if taken together with antibiotics because the antibiotic kills the live beneficial organisms. Separate your doses by a few hours.
Several ingredients in this formula we could not check against medications, so make sure to search your specific prescriptions in the tool below.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you're taking antibiotics, space out the doses — don't take this at the same time. It's generally well tolerated in healthy adults, though some people may experience gas or bloating.
If you have a weakened immune system or are critically ill, talk to your pharmacist before starting. Run your exact medications through our checker on this page before you begin.

Performance Probiotic Digestive Support by Nutra Sport Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Performance Probiotic Digestive Support by Nutra Sport contains several probiotic bacteria that interact with medications.
The most serious concern is with antibiotic drugs (Moderate severity): three probiotic ingredients — Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium bifidum — may have their effectiveness reduced if taken at the same time as antibiotics, since the antibiotics can kill the live organisms in the supplement. Separating doses by a few hours can help.

We were able to check most of the enzyme and probiotic ingredients in this product. Several others in the formula — Amylase, Peptidase, Invertase, Glucoamylase, Alpha-Galactosidase, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus casei, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Acid Maltase, and Lactococcus lactis — we could not check because we hold no data for them.
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications. The remaining ingredients we checked — Protease, Lipase, Lactase, Fructooligosaccharides, and Streptococcus thermophilus — show no documented interactions with medications in our data.
This does not guarantee no interactions exist with your specific drugs, so use the medication checker on this page to review your exact prescriptions before starting.

Lactobacillus acidophilus
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Bifidobacterium longum
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium longum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. longum.
Since B. longum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. longum preparations by at least 2 hours.
