What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 8 active ingredients.
  • “Proprietary Blend Winclove 505” is a proprietary blend — the label doesn't break down how much of each component you get.

Potent-Bac is a powder probiotic blend with eight active bacterial strains — living microorganisms designed to support your gut. The product includes two Bifidobacterium species (W51 and W52), five Lactobacillus species (acidophilus W22, salivarius W24, plantarum W21, and paracasei W20), plus Enterococcus faecium W54 and Lactococcus lactis W19.

These are grouped partly under a proprietary blend called Winclove 505. The inactive ingredients are mainly carbohydrates and minerals (maize starch, maltodextrin, fructooligosaccharides, inulin, and others) that serve as food and carriers for the live strains, along with vanilla flavor.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: digestive health and probiotic support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Bacterial vaginosis, Clostridioides difficile infection, Colic, Constipation, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Bacterial vaginosis, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Constipation, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Lactose intolerance, Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC).

For Lactobacillus acidophilus, the ingredient we could check, the evidence is mixed. It's rated Possibly Effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.

It's rated Possibly Ineffective for atopic disease (allergic conditions), and there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate it for acute respiratory distress syndrome. We don't have effectiveness ratings for the other seven strains in this product.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Gastrointestinal side effects from this strain in combination with other probiotics — like stomach discomfort, abdominal pain, bloating, flatulence, diarrhea, vomiting, or burping — can occur but are uncommon.

There's a theoretical concern that live probiotic organisms could cause serious infection in patients with compromised immunity, though these cases are rare and usually involve bacteria that were already present in the body. Because data are limited and safety varies by person, check with your doctor before starting.

For pregnancy, Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated Possibly Safe. Lactation safety data isn't on file for this ingredient.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Lactobacillus Acidophilus.

Antibiotic Drugs

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.

Potent-Bac by Physician's Strength: Common Questions

Does Potent-Bac by Physician's Strength interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Potent-Bac has a known interaction with 182 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Potent-Bac contains 8 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What are these bacterial strains supposed to do?
They're live organisms meant to support your gut health. For Lactobacillus acidophilus — the one we have evidence on — the data suggests it may help with irritable bowel syndrome, certain infections, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. We don't have effectiveness ratings for the other seven strains.
Can I take this with my antibiotic?
Not at the same time. Antibiotics kill the live organisms in this product, so you'll want to separate them — maybe a few hours apart. Your doctor or pharmacist can give you a specific schedule that works for your antibiotic and this probiotic.
What side effects might I get?
Digestive side effects like bloating, stomach discomfort, flatulence, or diarrhea can happen, but they're uncommon. In rare cases, especially in people with weakened immunity, probiotics could theoretically cause serious infection — which is why it's worth checking with your doctor first.
Is it safe if I'm pregnant?
Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated Possibly Safe in pregnancy. We don't have safety data on file for the other seven strains. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you during pregnancy — they can weigh your individual situation.
How many strains are in here, and what do they all do?
There are eight strains total: two Bifidobacterium, five Lactobacillus, Enterococcus faecium, and Lactococcus lactis. We have effectiveness and safety data for Lactobacillus acidophilus, but we haven't reviewed the others, so we don't know what evidence supports them.
