FOS is a prebiotic — a type of fiber that feeds the good bacteria already in your digestive system. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, silica, magnesium stearate, and titanium dioxide.

The evidence on what this product can do is mixed. The Lactobacillus acidophilus strains are possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Helicobacter pylori infection, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections. Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis is possibly effective for IBS, respiratory tract infections, and constipation.
On the other hand, FOS — the prebiotic ingredient — doesn't have enough reliable evidence yet for the conditions it's been studied for, including osteoporosis, constipation, diabetes, travelers' diarrhea, and high cholesterol. The probiotics show more promise than the prebiotic component.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotics in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. The most common side effects are digestive: gas, bloating, abdominal pain, and flatulence — especially from the FOS, which can cause these symptoms at higher doses.
One clinical trial found that FOS at doses between 2.5 to 15 grams daily for up to 8 weeks didn't increase these side effects more than a placebo, but individual experience varies. A small number of trial participants reported rash or itching, though it's unclear whether the probiotics, another ingredient, or the combination caused it.
People with weakened immune systems should check with their doctor first. Pregnancy and lactation data aren't on file for most of these ingredients — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Bifidobacterium bifidum (CUL 20)
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.
