HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotic Max by SimplySupplements
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Partial disclosure
Probiotic Max contains 2 active ingredients. Lactobacillus acidophilus is a live beneficial bacteria meant to support gut health.
Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are a type of fiber that may help feed the good bacteria in your digestive system. The tablet also contains several inactive ingredients — dicalcium phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, and maltodextrin — which help hold the tablet together and keep it stable.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), possibly effective for helicobacter pylori infection, possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and possibly effective for bacterial vaginosis. For atopic disease (like eczema and allergies), it's rated possibly ineffective.
There isn't enough evidence to rate it for acute respiratory distress syndrome. For fructooligosaccharides, the evidence we hold isn't established — it's rated insufficient for osteoporosis, constipation, diabetes, travelers' diarrhea, and high cholesterol.
That means the research so far hasn't been clear enough to say whether it helps with these conditions.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Some uncommon gastrointestinal side effects have been reported, including stomach discomfort, abdominal pain, gas, bloating, diarrhea, and burping.
In rare cases, the live bacteria have been linked to serious infections in people with weakened immune systems — though this is very uncommon. Fructooligosaccharides are generally well tolerated at food amounts, but may cause gas, bloating, abdominal pain, and flatulence, especially at higher doses.
Clinical trials suggest these symptoms are mild at doses under 10 grams daily. Because supplement-level doses aren't well studied, talk with your doctor before starting this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Antibiotic drugs are the main medication type to watch. When taken at the same time as Lactobacillus acidophilus, antibiotics may reduce the probiotic's effectiveness.
Separate the doses — ask your doctor or pharmacist for the best timing for your antibiotics and this supplement.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glancePartially disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Probiotic Max may help with certain digestive and gut-related issues, especially if you have IBS or antibiotic-associated diarrhea. The main thing to watch for is taking it with antibiotics — timing matters, and your doctor or pharmacist can help you space them properly.
Talk with your own healthcare provider before starting to make sure it fits your health picture.
