Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product has 10 active ingredients: a mix of live probiotic bacteria (beneficial organisms), fructooligosaccharides (which feed those bacteria), and specific probiotic strains chosen for adults over 50. The bacterial strains include two types of Lactobacillus acidophilus, four different Bifidobacterium species, and Lactobacillus reuteri.
The inactive ingredients are capsule materials and binders—hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, tapioca starch, microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and titanium dioxide.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for what this product does varies by strain. Lactobacillus acidophilus may help with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis—rated possibly effective for those uses.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections. Bifidobacterium breve shows insufficient evidence for most uses we have data on.
Fructooligosaccharides lack reliable evidence for bone health, constipation, blood sugar control, travelers' diarrhea, or cholesterol—the data we hold doesn't support claiming it works for those purposes. For other conditions or strains in this blend, effectiveness data isn't established in what we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus and the Bifidobacterium strains are generally well tolerated in healthy adults. The main side effects from probiotics taken together are mild gastrointestinal symptoms—bloating, gas, abdominal pain, and diarrhea—though these are uncommon.
Fructooligosaccharides can cause bloating, gas, and abdominal pain, especially at higher doses, though studies show doses under 10 grams daily don't necessarily increase these symptoms more than placebo. Very rare cases of serious infection from probiotics have been reported in people with weakened immune systems or who are critically ill.
No pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data are on file for most of these ingredients; talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist before starting if you take antibiotics. The live bacteria in this product—particularly Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Bifidobacterium breve—may be killed by antibiotics, making the probiotic less effective.
We hold no interaction data for Bifidobacterium animalis lactis Bi-07, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis HN-019, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis CUL-34, or Lactobacillus reuteri NCIMB 30242, so those strains can't be checked against your medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a multi-strain probiotic tailored for the over-50 crowd, with evidence supporting a few specific uses like IBS and antibiotic-associated diarrhea. If you're taking antibiotics, space out this supplement and talk to your pharmacist about timing.
If you have a weakened immune system or are very ill, check with your doctor first.

Probiotic Solutions Adults 50 Plus 55 Billion CFUs by GNC Probiotic Solutions Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
GNC Probiotic Solutions Adults 50 Plus contains several probiotic strains that interact with antibiotics.
The most serious concern is a Moderate interaction: Lactobacillus acidophilus (two strains in this product), Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Bifidobacterium breve may all lose effectiveness if you take them at the same time as antibiotics. Since these probiotics are live organisms, antibiotics can kill them before they do their job.
You'll want to space out when you take them—ask your pharmacist for the best timing.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Fructooligosaccharides (a prebiotic ingredient here) has no documented interactions with medications. We couldn't check several ingredients: Bifidobacterium animalis lactis Bi-07, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis HN-019, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis CUL-34, and Lactobacillus reuteri NCIMB 30242—we hold no interaction data for those strains.
Although no interactions are documented in our data for the unchecked ingredients, that doesn't guarantee none exist. Check your exact medications with the search tool on this page, especially if you're on antibiotics.
