What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • “Red Reishi Fruiting Body Extract” is listed as a grouped ingredient — the label gives one combined amount (1,260 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

This product has one active ingredient: beta-glucans (1,3/1,6 Beta-D-Glucans). These are a type of soluble fiber naturally found in mushrooms, grains, and yeast.

The product also contains a Red Reishi Fruiting Body Extract; because it's part of a proprietary blend, its individual components aren't listed separately. The capsules also contain fermented tapioca as an inactive ingredient.

Does it work?

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Strong

Clinical evidence supports at least one of this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: immune support, stress, and sleep.
  • We looked for evidence on: Stress, Insomnia, Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI), Lower respiratory tract infections, Influenza, Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Beta-glucans is rated "Likely Effective" for Coronary heart disease (CHD) (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Beta-glucans is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Cancer, Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI), Lower respiratory tract infections.

Beta-glucans are likely effective for two conditions: they can help lower cholesterol (dyslipidemia) and may support heart health in coronary heart disease. The evidence backing these uses is solid.

We don't have effectiveness data on file for how Reishi as a whole product works for other common uses people might take it for, so that would be worth discussing with your pharmacist or doctor.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Beta-glucans from food sources are generally well tolerated. However, concentrated supplements like this one don't have as much safety data behind them, so use caution.

Topically (on skin), beta-glucans can occasionally cause contact dermatitis or mild skin reactions. When taken by mouth at very high doses in a clinical trial, one patient showed temporary liver enzyme elevations.

There isn't enough research on concentrated supplement doses during breastfeeding to know if it's safe, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're nursing.

Moderate interaction found
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Beta-glucans.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: immunosuppressants / transplant drugs.
  • For scale: 293 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check your medications before starting this product if you take blood pressure drugs (antihypertensive medications) or immunosuppressants (used after transplants or for autoimmune conditions). Both can interact with beta-glucans at Moderate severity.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

If you're managing cholesterol or heart disease and want to try a supplement, beta-glucans have decent evidence behind them—but they can affect blood pressure and immune medications. Check with your pharmacist first, especially if you take anything for blood pressure control or immune suppression.

Beta-glucans are generally well tolerated, but concentrated supplements are less studied than food sources.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antihypertensive Drugs

Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.

Reishi by HealthForce SuperFoods: Common Questions

Does Reishi by HealthForce SuperFoods interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Reishi has a known interaction with 494 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Reishi contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does this product actually help with cholesterol or heart problems?
The beta-glucans in this product are likely effective for lowering cholesterol and supporting heart health in coronary heart disease, based on clinical research. That said, a supplement is usually one part of a bigger plan—talk to your doctor about whether it fits your situation.
What are the side effects I might notice?
Beta-glucans are generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. The main side effects reported in research are skin-related when applied topically (like mild rashes or contact dermatitis). At extremely high doses, there's a rare report of temporary liver enzyme changes, but that's not what you'd get from a normal supplement dose.
Is it safe to take while breastfeeding?
There isn't enough research on concentrated supplement doses during breastfeeding to say either way. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice before starting this.
Can I take this if I'm on blood pressure medication?
Beta-glucans may lower blood pressure, so combining them with blood pressure drugs could potentially drop your pressure too far. Don't start without checking with your pharmacist—they can review your specific medication and your numbers.
What's in this besides the active ingredient?
The main active ingredient is beta-glucans, plus a Reishi extract. The only inactive ingredient listed is fermented tapioca, which is a capsule filler.
