This product contains one active ingredient: S-Adenosyl-L-Methionine Tosylate Disulfate, commonly called SAMe. It's a naturally occurring compound in your body that plays a role in mood regulation and joint health.
The tablet also includes several inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, glycerol, sodium alginate, colloidal silica, arginine, and magnesium stearate — which are fillers and binders that hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
SAMe is likely effective for osteoarthritis, meaning the evidence supports its use for joint pain and stiffness. For depression, the evidence is less clear — it's considered possibly effective, so it may help some people but isn't proven for everyone.
There isn't enough reliable evidence yet to say whether it works for Alzheimer disease or ADHD, and its effectiveness for cholestasis (a liver bile flow problem) is also possibly effective but not confirmed.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
SAMe is generally well tolerated at typical doses, though side effects become more common at higher doses. The most common ones are stomach-related — nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, heartburn, and dry mouth — along with headache, dizziness, insomnia, and nervousness.
A few people report rash, itching, hair loss, or increased sweating. There's one important caution: SAMe may trigger or worsen mania in people with bipolar disorder, so if you have that condition, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.
Safety isn't well established in general, so use it only under the guidance of your healthcare provider.

Suggested usage (for adults only): Take on an empty stomach during the day: For mood balance 1-4 tablets 2 times per day or as directed by a health professional. For joint support: 1-3 tablets 2 times per day or as directed by a health professional. Do not exceed a total of 8 tablets per day. For best results, take SAMe for a minimum of 2 weeks, at which time effects should be observed.

SAMe
Levodopa
SAMe might reduce the effectiveness of levodopa.
SAMe methylates levodopa, which might reduce its effectiveness for treating Parkinson disease.
Serotonergic Drugs
Taking SAMe with serotonergic drugs might increase the risk of serotonin syndrome and other serotonergic side effects.
SAMe has serotonergic effects. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with SAMe might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders. In one case report, SAMe 100 mg intramuscularly was given daily with clomipramine (Anafranil) 25 mg per day. When the clomipramine dose was increased to 75 mg per day the patient experienced serotonin syndrome about 48-72 hours later, requiring hospitalization.
