Serrapeptase Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by BioAnue
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Serrapeptase against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
BioAnue Serrapeptase is a single-ingredient product: the protease enzyme serrapeptase, delivered in a gelatin capsule. Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme — meaning it breaks down proteins — originally isolated from the silkworm gut.
It works by digesting fibrin and other proteins in the body.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The data we hold rates serrapeptase as having insufficient reliable evidence for chronic bronchitis, asthma, atherosclerosis, back pain, and osteoporosis. That means the studies so far haven't been robust enough to say whether it works for these uses.
If you're considering it for one of these conditions, that's a conversation to have with your doctor about whether the evidence is compelling enough for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Serrapeptase is generally well tolerated in the short term. The most common side effects reported are epigastric pain (discomfort in the upper abdomen), gastrointestinal upset, and nausea — though these occur at about the same rate as placebo in trials, suggesting they may not be directly caused by the supplement.
A rare serious side effect (bullous pemphigoid, a blistering skin condition) has been reported. Long-term safety hasn't been well studied, so we don't have a lot of data on what happens if you take it for months or years.
During pregnancy, there isn't enough safety data, so it's best avoided. The same goes for breastfeeding — no reliable safety information is available.
If you're pregnant or nursing and interested in serrapeptase, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start serrapeptase, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet medications — that's the one Moderate-severity interaction category our data covers. These include prescription drugs like warfarin and clopidogrel, as well as over-the-counter aspirin.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Serrapeptase may be worth considering if you're looking to support fibrin breakdown, but the evidence for common uses like bronchitis or back pain isn't established yet. If you take any blood thinner or anticlotting medication, this product needs a green light from your doctor or pharmacist first.
Long-term safety data is thin, so this is a short-term option to discuss with your healthcare provider.

Serrapeptase by BioAnue Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Serrapeptase by BioAnue interacts with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs through its fibrinolytic activity — the ability to break down fibrin (a protein involved in clotting).
The main concern is Moderate severity: combining it with anticoagulants (like warfarin) or antiplatelet medications (like aspirin or clopidogrel) may increase your risk of bruising and bleeding. Altogether, these interactions span 122 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
If you take any blood thinner or medication that affects clotting — prescription or over-the-counter — you'll want to clear serrapeptase with your doctor or pharmacist before starting. The interaction is theoretical based on how the enzyme works in the lab, but the potential effect is real enough that it needs a conversation with your own healthcare provider.
