What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Shilajit against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Shilajit by Herbal Hills
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: shuddha shilajit, a purified form of shilajit, a mineral-rich substance traditionally used in herbal medicine. The capsule also holds inactive ingredients—silicon dioxide, maize starch, and the HPMC capsule material itself—which are fillers and binders that give the supplement its form.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for shilajit isn't established yet for the conditions we have data on. For Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and osteoporosis, we hold insufficient reliable evidence to say whether it works or not.
That doesn't mean it doesn't; it means the science isn't there yet to prove it does.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Shilajit is generally well tolerated, though a small number of cases have been reported. One person developed hives and later anaphylaxis after taking a higher dose, especially with exercise.
Headache has been reported rarely in clinical research. Because unpurified shilajit may contain heavy metals or other contaminants, use only purified, tested brands.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. One case linked shilajit to high blood pressure and low potassium in a pregnant woman, though the role of shilajit itself couldn't be confirmed.
Because there isn't enough safety data in either situation, talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this if you're on any antidiabetes drugs—insulin, metformin, glibenclamide, or any other diabetes medication. Shilajit can lower blood sugar and may enhance the glucose-lowering effect of your medications, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Shilajit may be worth considering if you're interested in traditional herbal support, but the evidence for specific health claims isn't solid yet. If you take any diabetes medication, you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist first—shilajit can lower blood sugar and might increase the risk of it dropping too low.
Make sure you're using a purified, tested brand, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

The ancient medical literature attributes many health benefits of Shilajit known as "Conqueror or mountains & destroyer of weakness." It is decomposition of the plant matter in the rocks centuries before. The transformed plant matter is extruded from the rocks by geothermal pressures. It is collected in raw form for purification. Shilajit is considered to increase the core energy responsible for sexual and spiritual power. It helps to counteract debility and general fatigue.

Shuddha Shilajit
Antidiabetes Drugs
Taking shilajit with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Most human and animal research shows that shilajit can decrease fasting plasma glucose levels. In an animal model, shilajit 100 mg per kg daily enhanced the glucose-lowering ability of both glibenclamide and metformin when given in combination over a 4 week period. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.
