Strontium Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by EuroMedica
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Strontium against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy
Strontium is a dietary supplement by EuroMedica with 1 active ingredient. Its ingredients are commonly taken for bone health and osteoporosis, reducing fracture risk, tooth sensitivity (in some toothpastes).Based on those ingredients, 101 medications have a known interaction with it, the most serious rated moderate. The ingredients most likely to interact are Strontium. Use the checker below to test your specific medication, or read the full HelloPharmacist Interaction Report.

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Strontium by EuroMedica
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: strontium. It's the mineral itself that does the work — strontium is used to support bone density in osteoporosis, ease pain from bone metastases, reduce tooth sensitivity, and possibly help with osteoarthritis and prostate cancer.
The capsule also holds inactive ingredients (binders and fillers) like cellulose, magnesium stearate, and titanium dioxide.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Strontium is effective for dental hypersensitivity and painful bony metastases. It's likely effective for osteoporosis — the evidence supports its use there.
For osteoarthritis and prostate cancer, the evidence is more limited; we'd call it possibly effective, meaning early research is encouraging but we need more data to be confident.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Strontium is generally well tolerated at standard doses, with the most common side effects being diarrhea, nausea, headache, and skin irritation like dermatitis. However, there's a serious concern: strontium ranelate (the form most studied) appears to increase the risk of blood clots by about 50% and heart attack risk by 60% in people with osteoporosis.
These are rare, but real. The safety data advises against strontium during pregnancy and while breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to say it's safe.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this strontium supplement, check with your pharmacist if you take estrogens (like birth control or hormone therapy), androgens (testosterone or similar), antacids, or quinolone or tetracycline antibiotics. All moderate interactions.
Timing your doses carefully — usually 2 hours apart — can help manage some of these, but your pharmacist can give you specific guidance for your medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Strontium may help with bone density and tooth sensitivity, but it comes with documented risks of blood clots and heart problems, especially if you have osteoporosis. If you're on estrogens, androgens, antacids, or antibiotics, timing and dosing become critical.
Talk with your pharmacist or doctor about whether this supplement fits your health picture before you start.

Strontium by EuroMedica Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
EuroMedica's Strontium supplement interacts with several medication types, and the most serious concern involves estrogens and androgens (like testosterone).
Both may reduce how your body excretes strontium, potentially building it up in your system and increasing side effects — though we don't yet know how significant this risk is clinically.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Antacids are a major practical issue: aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and especially calcium can cut strontium absorption by 20% to 70%, weakening the supplement's effect. You'll need to separate doses by at least 2 hours.
Quinolone antibiotics (like ciprofloxacin) and tetracycline antibiotics (like doxycycline) also interact moderately — strontium can block their absorption in your gut. Again, timing matters: take strontium at least 2 hours before or after these antibiotics.
Altogether, these interactions span 101 individual medications. Use the interaction checker below with your exact prescriptions before you start.

For each ingredient in Strontium with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Strontium
Androgens
Theoretically, androgens might reduce the excretion of strontium, potentially increasing its effects and adverse effects.
A small clinical study suggests that treatment with androgens such as testosterone, nandrolone, oxandrolone, and oxymetholone for 5-6 weeks might decrease urinary strontium excretion. The clinical significance of this interaction is unknown.
Antacids
Antacids can reduce the absorption of strontium, potentially decreasing its effectiveness.
Aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide can reduce absorption of strontium ranelate by 20% to 25%. Calcium can reduce its absorption to 60% to 70%. Avoid taking antacids within 2 hours of a dose of strontium ranelate. This interaction has also been reported with orally-administered radioactive strontium-85. It will likely also occur with other forms of strontium.
Estrogens
Theoretically, estrogens might reduce the excretion of strontium, potentially increasing its effects and adverse effects.
A small clinical study suggests that treatment with estrogens for 5-6 weeks might decrease urinary strontium excretion. The clinical significance of this interaction is unknown.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, strontium might decrease the absorption of quinolone antibiotics.
Strontium is a divalent cation with similar properties to calcium. It is likely to form complexes with quinolones in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, preventing absorption of the antibiotic. Recommend taking strontium supplements at least 2 hours before or after quinolones to avoid an interaction.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, strontium might decrease the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics.
Strontium is a divalent cation with similar properties to calcium. It is likely to form complexes with tetracyclines in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, preventing absorption of the antibiotic. Recommend taking strontium supplements at least 2 hours before or after tetracyclines to avoid an interaction.
