HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Taurine 500 mg by Country Life
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains two active ingredients: vitamin B6 and taurine. Vitamin B6 is a B-complex vitamin your body uses for nerve function, immune health, and the metabolism of amino acids and carbohydrates.
Taurine is an amino acid naturally found in foods like meat and fish; your body also makes its own. The tablet also contains several inactive ingredients — cellulose, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, silica, and a cellulose-glycerin coating — which help form and protect the pill.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for taurine itself is limited. Our data shows it's rated Possibly Effective for congestive heart failure (CHF) and hepatitis, and Possibly Ineffective for obesity — meaning the evidence is mixed or preliminary.
Vitamin B6, by contrast, is Effective for sideroblastic anemia (a blood disorder) and vitamin B6 deficiency, Likely Effective for high homocysteine levels, and Possibly Effective for pregnancy-related nausea. The evidence for taurine's benefits in this product formulation is not well established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin B6 is well tolerated at doses under 100 mg daily. Common mild effects include stomach pain, headache, heartburn, nausea, and drowsiness.
At very high doses — especially above 1,000 mg daily or with cumulative doses of 1 gram or more — it can cause nerve damage (sensory neuropathy), though this can happen at lower doses too. Taurine is generally well tolerated short-term in healthy adults at typical doses; the most common effects are constipation, diarrhea, or indigestion.
Rare hypersensitivity reactions have been reported, especially in people with a history of sulfa or sulfite allergies. Long-term safety data for taurine supplements is limited.
The product contains taurine, which occurs naturally in breast milk, but supplement safety during breastfeeding is not well studied.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take any blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs), check with your pharmacist before starting — both ingredients may lower your blood pressure further. If you take antiseizure drugs like phenytoin (Dilantin) or phenobarbital (Luminal), high-dose vitamin B6 could reduce their effectiveness.
If you take lithium, amiodarone (Cordarone), or levodopa (Sinemet or Sinemet CR), see the checker below before you begin. No interactions are documented for the inactive ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is most useful if you have a documented vitamin B6 deficiency or are seeking support for high homocysteine. If you take blood pressure medications, antiseizure drugs, lithium, amiodarone, or levodopa (with or without carbidopa), run your full medication list through the checker on this page before starting — the interactions are real.
Talk to your pharmacist if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning any of those, or if you have a sulfa or sulfite allergy.

Taurine 500 mg by Country Life Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Taurine 500 mg by Country Life contains two active ingredients, and vitamin B6 is the one with documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concerns are with antiseizure drugs — vitamin B6 at high doses may reduce blood levels and effectiveness of phenytoin (Dilantin) and phenobarbital (Luminal), both rated Moderate severity.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Vitamin B6 also has Moderate interactions with antihypertensive drugs (blood pressure medications), where it may add to their blood-pressure-lowering effect, and with amiodarone (Cordarone), a heart rhythm drug, where it might worsen sun sensitivity. Levodopa (a Parkinson's medication) has a Minor interaction — vitamin B6 can speed up its breakdown, but only if taken without carbidopa; the combination Sinemet avoids this problem.
Taurine itself interacts with antihypertensive drugs (Moderate severity — it may lower blood pressure further) and lithium (Moderate severity — it might reduce how your kidneys clear lithium, raising its levels). Altogether, these interactions span 209 individual medications.
Use the medication checker below to see if any of your drugs are affected before you start this product.

For each ingredient in Taurine 500 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Vitamin B6
Amiodarone (Cordarone)
Theoretically, vitamin B6 might increase the photosensitivity caused by amiodarone.
Despite initial case reports suggesting that pyridoxine may have a protective effect against amiodarone-induced photosensitivity, preliminary clinical research suggests that pyridoxine may actually exacerbate this adverse effect.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, vitamin B6 may have additive effects when used with antihypertensive drugs.
Research in hypertensive rats shows that vitamin B6 can decrease systolic blood pressure. Similarly, clinical research in patients with hypertension shows that taking high doses of vitamin B6 may reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure, possibly by reducing plasma levels of epinephrine and norepinephrine.
Phenobarbital (Luminal)
High doses of vitamin B6 may reduce the levels and clinical effects of phenobarbital.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that vitamin B6 200 mg daily can reduce plasma levels of phenobarbital, possibly by increasing metabolism. It is not known whether lower doses have any effect. Advise people taking phenobarbital to avoid high doses of vitamin B6.
Phenytoin (Dilantin)
High doses of vitamin B6 may reduce the levels and clinical effects of phenytoin.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that vitamin B6 200 mg daily can reduce plasma levels of phenytoin, possibly by increasing metabolism. It is not known whether lower doses have any effect. Advise people taking phenytoin to avoid high doses of vitamin B6.
Levodopa
Vitamin B6 may increase the metabolism of levodopa when taken alone, but not when taken in conjunction with carbidopa.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) enhances the metabolism of levodopa, reducing its clinical effects. However, this interaction does not occur when carbidopa is used concurrently with levodopa (Sinemet). Therefore, it is not likely to be a problem in most people.
Taurine
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taurine might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Some clinical evidence suggests that taurine can reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Lithium
Theoretically, taurine might reduce excretion and increase plasma levels of lithium.
Taurine is thought to have diuretic properties, which might reduce the excretion of lithium.
