What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-Taurine, an amino acid your body naturally makes and can get from foods like meat and fish. It's used in energy drinks and sports supplements, and your cells use it for various functions including heart and nerve health.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence on taurine is mixed. For hepatitis, it's rated possibly effective based on available studies.
For congestive heart failure (a weakened heart's reduced pumping ability), it's also rated possibly effective. For obesity, however, the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective.
These ratings reflect that more research is needed in each area.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Taurine is generally well tolerated in typical doses for up to one year. The most common side effects are constipation, diarrhea, and indigestion.
Rarely, some people — especially those with a history of allergies to sulfites or sulfur-containing foods — have had allergic reactions. Long-term safety beyond one year is less certain, and safety at high supplement doses isn't well established, so use only under medical guidance.
While taurine naturally occurs in breast milk, the safety of taking it as a supplement during breastfeeding hasn't been well studied; talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.
Meds to double-check

Your doctor or pharmacist needs to know you're considering this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have congestive heart failure or hepatitis and your doctor recommends a taurine trial, this product may be worth a conversation. But if you take a blood pressure medication or lithium, you must check with your doctor or pharmacist first — the interaction risks are real.
Long-term use and high doses need medical oversight.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Prime Nutrition Precision Series Taurine contains L-Taurine, which has documented interactions with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) and lithium.
The most serious concern is with lithium: taurine may reduce how your kidneys clear it, raising lithium levels in your blood to potentially unsafe amounts.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Taurine can also lower blood pressure on its own. If you're already taking a blood pressure medication, combining them might drop your pressure too far (a Moderate severity interaction).
Blood pressure changes need to be monitored closely.
Altogether, these interactions span 173 individual medications. If you take any blood pressure drug or lithium, run your exact medications through the checker below before starting this product — do not skip this step, as the effects could be serious.
