Triple Action Probiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Triple Action Probiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Triple Action Probiotic by Purity Products
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product has 3 active ingredients, all live-culture probiotics: Lactobacillus acidophilus (La-14 strain), Bifidobacterium longum (BB536 strain), and Bacillus coagulans. These are beneficial bacteria meant to support digestive and gut health.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, and silica — which are fillers and binders that help hold the formula together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The three probiotics in this product have different evidence pictures. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Helicobacter pylori infection, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bacillus coagulans is possibly effective for constipation and IBS. Bifidobacterium longum doesn't have established effectiveness for the conditions we have data on — the evidence is insufficient to rate its use.
For other conditions like allergic rhinitis, anxiety, and asthma, the data on these strains is too limited to say whether they help.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though mild gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, and abdominal discomfort are possible but uncommon. Bifidobacterium longum and Bacillus coagulans are both generally well tolerated in healthy people, but caution is recommended if you're seriously ill or immune-compromised — there have been rare cases of infection (bacteremia or sepsis) reported in critically ill or immunocompromised patients.
All three ingredients come with a note to check with your doctor before starting, especially if your immune system is weakened.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, you'll need to separate them from this probiotic by several hours — the antibiotics can reduce the probiotic's effectiveness. This is a Moderate interaction affecting all three active ingredients in the product.
Check with your doctor or pharmacist about the best timing for your specific antibiotics and this supplement.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may help if you have IBS, constipation, or antibiotic-associated diarrhea, though the evidence is stronger for some strains than others. The main thing to watch: separate it from any antibiotics you're taking by several hours so the antibiotics don't kill off the live cultures.
If you're seriously ill or have a weakened immune system, talk to your doctor before starting — the risk of infection is low in healthy people but something to discuss if your health is compromised.

For each ingredient in Triple Action Probiotic with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Lactobacillus acidophilus (La-14)
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Bifidobacterium longum (BB536)
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium longum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. longum.
Since B. longum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. longum preparations by at least 2 hours.
Bacillus coagulans
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking antibiotics with Bacillus coagulans might decrease the effectiveness of B. coagulans.
B. coagulans preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. coagulans preparations by at least two hours.
