TrueAsta Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by NatureCity
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking TrueAsta against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
TrueAsta is a single-ingredient supplement: astaxanthin (marketed here as AstaReal), a carotenoid — a natural pigment with antioxidant properties. The capsule itself is filled with extra virgin olive oil and contains gelatin, glycerin, and water as inactive ingredients that help deliver and stabilize the active ingredient.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for astaxanthin isn't established yet in the data we hold. Studies have looked at it for age-related cognitive decline, macular degeneration (AMD), skin aging, Alzheimer disease, athletic performance, and carpal tunnel syndrome, but the results so far aren't reliable enough to rate how well it actually works for any of those uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Astaxanthin is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects are mild: abdominal pain, diarrhea, and red fecal color (a harmless discoloration from the supplement itself).
At standard doses around 6 mg daily, a small number of people reported increased bowel movements or red stool; at much higher doses (40 mg daily), rare cases of severe stomach pain occurred. During pregnancy, the safety data aren't sufficient to know either way — we advise against it based on the information available.
The same applies to breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this supplement is right for you if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take TrueAsta, check whether you're on medications metabolized by CYP3A4 or CYP2B6 enzymes — astaxanthin may theoretically lower their levels in your blood. Statins, blood pressure drugs, immunosuppressants, certain antidepressants, and antiretrovirals are common examples.
Use the medication search tool on this page to verify your prescriptions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
TrueAsta may interest you if you're exploring antioxidant support, but the evidence for its specific benefits isn't solid yet. The real caution here is for anyone on medications broken down by your liver (CYP3A4 or CYP2B6 drugs) — check with your pharmacist first.

TrueAsta by NatureCity Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
TrueAsta contains astaxanthin, which interacts with medications metabolized by two liver enzymes.
Based on in vitro research, astaxanthin may theoretically speed up how your liver breaks down drugs processed through CYP3A4 and CYP2B6 enzymes — potentially lowering their levels in your blood and making them less effective. These effects haven't been documented in humans yet, but the concern is real enough to warrant a check.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Altogether, these interactions span 661 individual medications. Many common drugs ride on those two pathways: statins (cholesterol drugs), certain blood pressure medications, immunosuppressants, and some cancer treatments all depend on CYP3A4, while antidepressants, antiretrovirals, and other medications lean on CYP2B6.
Both categories carry a Moderate severity rating — meaning the risk is worth taking seriously before you combine them with this supplement.
Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions. If you take anything metabolized through either of those liver enzymes, run it against astaxanthin's profile before you start.
