Ubiquinol
Coenzyme Q10, also known as CoQ10, is a naturally occurring substance that is found in every cell of the body and plays an essential role in energy production within the mitochondria, which are the powerhouse of the cells. CoQ10 also acts as an antioxidant, protecting cells from damage caused by harmful free radicals. While CoQ10 is endogenous, meaning our body can produce it on its own, levels can decrease with age, with certain medications (e.g., statins) or due to certain medical conditions. In such cases, supplementation with CoQ10 may be beneficial. Additionally, CoQ10 supplements have been studied for a variety of health benefits, including improving heart health, reducing inflammation, and potentially even aiding in the treatment of neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease. However, it's important to note that while some studies have shown potential benefits, the research on CoQ10 supplementation is still ongoing, and more studies are needed to fully understand its effects on the body.

General Statements |
- Ubiquinol is the primary form of the compound in circulation, whereas supplemental ubiquinone (CoQ10) first must be reduced to ubiquinol before its antioxidant benefits can be realized. Reduction of ubiquinone to ubiquinol may be markedly less efficient in some individuals due to age, general health and/or genetics. Overall production of CoQ10 by the body typically falls with advancing age. Coenzyme Q10 is present in almost all cells where, as ubiquinone, it is necessary for mitochondrial energy production as a component of the respiratory chain. The body's highest concentrations of CoQ10 are found in the heart, where constant chemical energy availability is imperative.
- CoQH functions as a powerful fat-soluble antioxidant, providing protection against free radical attack for vascular structures, as well as for other tissues including the brain and neurons. Ubiquinol protects membrane phospholipids and serum low-density lipoprotein from lipid peroxidation, and protects mitochondrial membrane proteins and DNA from free radical induced oxidative damage. Furthermore, ubiquinol regenerates oxidized vitamin E, returning it to a reduced state. Recent findings linking CoQ10 to support for healthy blood pressure levels already in the normal range do not appear to be related to the compound's antioxidant functions. The addition of d-Limonene to this product naturally improves its solubility, which further enhances intestinal absorption, and thereby provides superior overall biological value.
